• Budget Increase From Health Insurance (wanderer.com) — Marion’s Board of Health has endorsed a preliminary 2.8% fiscal 2027 budget increase, driven largely by a new online permitting system and sharply higher health insurance costs. Members praised the health director’s planning but warned the hike may be hard to justify when most departments are held to 2%, and they confirmed their first-and-third-Thursday meeting schedule into the new year.

• Marion nonprofit brings festive decoration ashore (theweektoday.com) — A new student-run nonprofit, Marion Buoys of Hope, has nearly hit its $10,000 year-end goal by “selling” painted buoys for a festive tree outside Marion Music Hall on Front Street. The Tabor Academy juniors behind the project are directing proceeds to Damien’s Food Pantry in Wareham, buying winter gear and food while rallying Marion residents and businesses around a creative holiday tradition they plan to expand next year.
