5 Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 31
Here is a list of things going on in and around Marlborough today.

1. We are in for more of the same today, and that means beautiful, sunny skies with a high of 83 degrees.
2. Commerce Bank has announced its annual clothing drive for the Salvation Army in its 13 offices throughout Central Massachusetts, including the 322 Maple St. location in Marlborough. Articles of gently used clothing collected in Commerce Bank offices will be sold in local Salvation Army Thrift Stores, with the proceeds going to help fund the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Worcester.
3. A check presentation from Raytheon to in support of the Labor Day Parade will be held today at 1 p.m. in the Mayor’s Conference Room, 4th Floor of City Hall. Representatives from Raytheon will be on hand to deliver the check to Mayor Stevens and Ed Thurber, Parade Director. Immediately following the check presentation, the Mayor will announce the Grand Marshal for the 2011 Labor Day Parade. A formal write up on the selected individual will be handed out at this time for publication.

4. After seeing grades 6 and 7 enter school on Tuesday, the will welcome the rest of their students today. See our story .
5. The emergency shelter established by the city of Marlborough, has closed on permanent basis, due to the continued efforts by the mayor's office and National Grid.
