5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 13

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. The National Weather Service is predicting rain and patchy fog throughout the day today with a high near 65 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 100 percent, and rainfall totals are expected to reach up to a half an inch. 

2. On Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Friends of the will present a “Fall One Day Book and Bake Sale” with Friends “Coffee Shop” in the Library’s Bigelow Auditorium. Books will be offered for sale at: adult hard cover $1; and paperback $0.50; young adult and children’s hard cover $0.50 and children’s soft cover $0.25. Also The Friends “Commemorative 40th Anniversary” T-Shirts, book bags and stationary along with The Marlborough Public Library’s Trustee commemorative book “Old Homesteads of Marlborough” will be on sale to benefit the Marlborough Public Library Foundation.

3. Local residents and the Marlborough chapter of Moveon.org are set to protest this Saturday in solidarity with the "Occupy Wall Street" groups in New New York and around the country. Protesters will be holding signs at the intersection of Route 85 and Main Street beginning at 1 p.m.

4. This Friday, the Museum of Science Boston is hosting students and approximately 2,000 other students from around the state for "Explore Engineering Day." NECN's chief meteorologist Matt Noyes, Raytheon engineers and other volunteers will participate in hands-on activities to teach and demonstrate the fundamental engineering concepts that bring the wonders of robotics, satellites, meteorology and air traffic control to life.

5. Don't forget: The Marlborough flu clinic will get underway Saturday, Oct. 15 at the  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Click here for details.
