5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 19

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. The National Weather Service says to expect a high of 59 degrees with steady rain as of 2 p.m. This rain could be heavy at times, so be careful on that commute home this afternoon. 

2. The Friends of the will host their semi-annual book sale at the library on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be thousands of used books on sale for very inexpensive prices. 

3. This evening, a magician will perform at the Marlborough Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. “Say It With Magic” starring Jason Kallio, magician and emcee, and the Friends of the Library will host an evening of fun and entertainment to find out to find out what the Friends do and how one can benefit. There will be door prizes, special prizes, refreshments and more. Free admission. Kallio is an award winning magician with over 12 years experience. He is the president and youth advisor for the Central MA Assembly of the Society of American Magicians.

4. Raytheon Network Centric Systems, in Marlborough, will be a major sponsor of the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics team at . Engineering Fellow James McGrath, and Jonathan Flick, a Raytheon engineer, visited with some of the team members as they presented a $5,000 check to Superintendent/Director Mary Jo Nawrocki to cover some of the registration fees for the competitions.

5. Don't forget to check out our new traffic widget, which we will feature each day during peak traffic hours. This is meant to be a resource to those traveling in and out of the city and means of avoiding the occasional heavy traffic we experience.
