5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 25
Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Matthew Jones will be at the for a meet and greet with potential voters from 5:30 to 7 p.m. this evening. (the mayoral general election is next Tuesday) Light refreshments will be served.
2. Arthur Vigeant will be hosting an open house at the proposed site of the new Marlborough Senior Center—The West Meeting House, 86 Pleasant St., from 4 to 6 p.m. today. This is an opportunity for residents to tour the building and provide feedback about the process.
3. Senator Jamie Eldridge wants to ban ex-legislators from working in the (impending) Massachusetts casino industry for five years after they leave office. See the video here. Do you think this is a good idea?

4. Marlborough resident Ginny Carpenter is playing Miss Skillon in the British farce “See How They Run” at The Cannon Theater in Littleton over the next couple week. The comedy, which starts Friday, Oct. 28, for a ten-show run, is about a young vicar's wife who is trying to fit into a small, tightly knit British town. Having recently made her stage debut in “Funny Money” at the Center for Arts in Natick, Carpenter was a ballet and jazz dancer when growing up, and has been belly dancing for the past few years. She caught the theater bug living in New York City, where she was surrounded by actors, and was inspired to study acting after moving to MetroWest. The show will be on Oct. 28, 29; Nov. 4, 5; 11, 12; 17, 18, 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. Cupcakes and cookies will be available on Oct. 28 and 29, catered by Sweetpea Bakery. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors 65 and over/students with ID, and $10 for children 12 and under. The Cannon Theatre is located at 410 Great Road (on the second floor of the mill building) near the corner of Rt. 119 and Rt. 110 in the center of Littleton.
5. Main Street will be ground zero for the annual , giving youngsters an opportunity to show off their best costumes. The event will be held the evening of Friday, Oct. 28 with a time of trick or treating (4:30 to 5:30) and then the annual parade will follow.
