Beloved Marlborough Firefighter Retires After More Than 30 Years

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A beloved firefighter in Marlborough has officially hung up his gear.

After many years of public service in the city, Paul Maurice has retired, according to a news release from the Marlborough Firefighters Local 1714 union. He retired as the Chauffer of Truck Company No. 1, where he spent almost a decade of his career.

Maurice began his career in 1991 as a permanent intermittent firefighter, according to the union. He was finally made a permanent firefighter in 1998.

The esteemed firefighter was an active union member and took on the role of leading the Honor Guard Detail, which performs ceremonial duties at events like funerals and parades.

"We wish Paul well in his retirement, and thank him for his many decades of service to the City of Marlborough," wrote Local 1714.
