Video: Valentine's Day Kitten Rescue In Marlborough After Feline Stranded For Days
A Wayland company with a big ladder rescued the cat at the very top of a spruce tree on Valentine's Day.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A group of area residents put a lot of heart into a kitten rescue on Valentine's Day in Marlborough.
The young cat had climbed to the top of a tall spruce tree along Mechanic Street and had been crying for days — possibly as far back as Saturday, according to the Buddy Dog Humane Society.
On Wednesday morning, residents turned to local Facebook groups — including Residents of Marlborough and Massachusetts Lost Pet Locator — to seek help. They were able to get in touch with Carlisle-based tree climber Andrew Joslin, who has performed high angle pet rescues before. Meanwhile, Buddy Dog contacted Wayland's Lynch Landscape & Tree Service for help after seeing how high in the tree the kitten was. The company brought a bucket truck to the scene tall enough to reach the top of the spruce.

Neil Irving, a Lynch employee, rode a bucket to the top of the tree and brought the kitten down to safety on Wednesday afternoon while Joslin captured the event on video. Buddy Dog took the kitten to its shelter in Sudbury and gave her a new, holiday-appropriate name.
"Using their equipment and Neil’s considerable cat wrangling skills, [Lynch employees] quickly reached the cold, frightened but very grateful kitten now known as Valentine!" the Sudbury animal shelter wrote in a Facebook post. "After a veterinarian exam, she is resting comfortably in a warm bed for the first time in at least five days!"
