Marlborough High Junior Honored At State House For Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 1972 by the Massachusetts State Legislature and named for the state's 59th governor.
MARLBOROUGH, MA—Andy Bonilla, a junior at Marlborough High School (MHS), was recently honored at the State House in Boston where he received a scholarship from the Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship Program, Marlborough public schools announced.
The Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship Program is a state-supported program providing educational opportunities to Commonwealth high school students who demonstrate academic promise and desire to attend post-secondary institutions.
Timothy Donahue, a guidance counselor at MHS, nominated Bonilla for the Herter Scholarship. “Andy is one of the first student stars I met during my first year at MHS," he said in a statement. "After meeting Andy and learning about his academic background, I could see he was one of those students. One of those students is a student who you want to keep assisting because they listen to your advice, assume responsibility, and want more in their everyday life."

Donahue wanted to share his story with others that could springboard him to his post-secondary dreams. Academically, Bonilla rose from College Placement classes to all honors, said the announcement. For his senior year, Andy is scheduled for several Advanced Placement courses. “Andy has an aura of humility and kindness,” Donahue added, “and I was honored to accompany him and his family to the State House where he was honored with a well-deserved scholarship.”
