Marlborough Honors Beloved First Responder As Labor Day Parade Grand Marshal

The parade is a more than 70-year-old tradition.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A leader for Marlborough's Labor Day Parade has been selected.

Mayor J. Christian Dumais announced that David Walton will be the Grand Marshal for the more than 70-year-old annual parade. Walton is a retired firefighter and EMT who served the city for decades.

Marlborough's Labor Day Events will take place on Sunday and Monday, with both the festival and parade beginning at noon. The parade kicks off on Monday at Pleasant Street and finishes at the American Legion, located at 90 Maple St.

Walton founded Patriot Ambulance, which has provided Emergency Medical Services in Marlborough for over 30 years, serving more than 220,000 citizens across local communities.

He has recieved several honors, including “Businessperson of the Year” by the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2007; the Rotary Club’s “Paul Harris Fellow Award” in 2010; and the “Humanitarian of the Year Award” in 2014.

Walton also served on the Board of Trustees at UMass Memorial - Marlborough Hospital.

"Having him as Grand Marshal for me is a way to say thank you, Dave, for all that you have done over the years for the City of Marlborough," stated Mayor Dumais. "You deserve this moment to shine. Thank you for the dedication, love for the city, and support.”
