Marlborough Kids Graduate Youth Safety Academy

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian will recognize local youth in a ceremony on Friday, July 22.

On Friday, July 22, Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian, along with other public safety and elected officials, will recognize Marlborough youth who have graduated from the 2011 Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Youth Public Safety Academy. Young people from Ashland, Framingham and Natick will also be graduating from the program.

Sheriff Koutoujian will hold a ceremony at the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Training Academy in Billerica, honoring the children from these communities. The cadets, ages 9 – 11, will be given diplomas in recognition of their hard work and dedication to public safety.

Each summer the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office sponsors this free week-long summer program. The Academy exposes children to role models in Public Safety – namely their local police, fire, emergency medical services and sheriff’s personnel. Cadets learn basic first aid skills, fire safety, tour their local police and fire stations, participate in numerous demonstrations and are taught the importance of self-esteem and teamwork. Every week the program is tailored to the specific Middlesex community that is participating. On Wednesdays the cadets visit their local police and fire stations. Parents, cadets and invited guests will enjoy a family cookout after the graduation proceedings.
