Pair From Dracut Charged In I-495 Hammer Attack On Trucker

The two men were arrested in Marlborough after the fight in an I-495 breakdown lane Monday afternoon.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Two men from Dracut are facing multiple charges following an apparent road rage attack along I-495 Monday that left a tractor-trailer driver seriously injured.

State police responded to a call about a fight between drivers in the breakdown lane of I-495 southbound around 2 p.m. Monday and found the 28-year-old trucker, a Maine resident, with serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital, but does not have life-threatening injuries.

After state police broadcast a description of the car involved in the fight, police in Marlborough spotted it and pulled the driver over. State police said the driver and passenger hit the trucker with a hammer. A woman in the car was not charged.

State police said Tuesday that Javier Gutierrez Vargas, 23, will be charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of disorderly conduct. Juan Marin, 28, of Dracut, will face the same charges. Both will be arraigned in Clinton District Court, police said.
