Weather Service Issues Flood Watch for Marlborough, Central Mass

Rain is predicted for the next few days, and periods of heavy rain could cause flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch to go into effect 8 p.m. Friday. Marlborough as well as much of central and western Massachusetts are expected to be a part of the most heavily affected areas.

With steady rain already coming down and plenty more predicted in the days to come, NWS expects flooding in low-lying and poorly-drained areas. 

"A prolonged period of rain with embedded heavier showers and isolated thunderstorms is anticipated, said a statement. "Rainfall amount of 1 to 3 inches are expected with locally heavier amounts likely. The heaviest rainfall area will be western and central Massachusetts. Flooding of poor drainage and urban areas will be possible, along with potential flooding impact to small streams and creeks.

NWS precautions residents to be on alert for updated forecasts as conditions could possibly worsen. 

"Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop, said the statement.
