ACE MV Brings the World to the Island

Second annual cultural festival this Saturday

(ACE MV) will have its second annual benefit celebrating Island diversity and culture on November 19th from 5pm to 9pm at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

The four parts to the evening begin with children’s’ films from around the world supplied by and Cinema Circus. In the cafeteria local chefs and caterers from , and , among others, will host the Ethnic International Food Court selling foods from: Brazil (Tropical Restaurant, Vineyard Grocer), Cape Verde (Manchupa- caterer Laura Rose), Dominican Republic (Nelly Rodriguez, food blogger and chef), India (Uma Datta – caterer and chef), Jamaica (Deon’s restaurant), Thailand (Sai Mai Restaurant), Uruguay (Berta Fernandez caterer and chef), and much more.

While dining, people will enjoy music with DJ Donald Rose and demonstrations of Salsa, Capoeira, Belly dancing, Irish tunes, folk dancing, and a fashion show of artist Janice Frame’s fascinator hats fit for a royal wedding. There will also be many booths of vendors and displays highlighted by Native jewelry, Haitian art, Irish pottery/art, African crafts and books, Zapotec fortune telling, displays from different nationalities and community groups represented on the Island, and more.

The ongoing Silent Auction will offer amazing treasures to complete your gift list for the holiday season and encourage wonderful indulgences including hair products, massages, and a two-day excursion off-Island, with boat passage, restaurant and hotel included. The culmination parade of artists and concert features La Eskuelita Candombe an Afro-Uruguayan rhythm group from Boston, the Black Brook Singers, Sabrina and Don Groover, singer/song writer Elizabeth Straton, Salsa with Saskia Vanderhoop and Company, Irish Music with Gregg and Mary & Billy Meleady, Capoeira with Leandro Lemos and Company and with Gunga and Company, Klezmer music, the Vineyard Bellydance Revue, and more, with MC Sterling Bishop and DJ Donald Rose of R&B Entertainment.

The event is supported in part by the Local Arts Lottery Mass Cultural Council, and other generous businesses. Tickets for $15 (children under 12 free) may be purchased online at www.acemv.org,  and groups or individuals may reserve a table in advance for $150 (from 5 to 6pm, 6 to 7pm, 7 to 8pm).
