The harbormaster issued an alert at 9:45 a.m. Saturday and said beaches on the south side of the island would be closed at least until 11:45 a.m. The closed beaches include Madaket, Cisco, Miacomet, Surfside, Nobadeer and Sconset.
Beaches are open for the day with the exception of the entire south shore (Madaket, Cisco, Miacomet, Surfside, Nobadeer, and Sconset) for at least two hours due to shark sightings. #StayOut #StaySafe #StayTuned pic.twitter.com/bow6ewmKZr

The Cape has been plagued by shark sightings this summer — so much so that businesses say they're seeing sluggish sales. In September, Arthur Medici, 26, of Revere, was killed by a shark as he boogie boarded at Newcomb Hollow Beach. It was the state's first fatal shark attack since 1936.
