The Black Dog's 'Hero For Nero' Shirts Honor Shot K-9

Martha's Vineyard clothing retailer The Black Dog donated T-shirt sales to honor a shot Yarmouth police dog and fallen Officer Sean Gannon.

TISBURY, MA — Businesses and organizations on Cape Cod and beyond have stepped up to help local charities in the wake of Yarmouth Police Officer Sean Gannon's murder last month. Gannon, 32, was shot and killed searching for a career criminal in Barnstable. His police dog, Nero, was also shot and survived.

On Friday morning, Martha's Vineyard clothing retailer The Black Dog started selling "Hero for Nero" T-shirts to benefit a memorial fund for Gannon and the Cape and Islands Police K-9 Relief Fund. The shirts sold out online before noon. Shirts also went on sale Friday at The Black Dog stores in Falmouth, Chatham, Mashpee and Provincetown.

Also on Friday, Cumberland Farms stores on Cape Cod and parts of Southeastern Massachusetts donated 20 cents for each cup of coffee and dispensed beverage sold to Gannon's fund.
