Blizzard Warning For Martha's Vineyard

Saturday's forecast for snowfall now up to a foot.

Martha’s Vineyard was the first place in Massachusetts to get blizzard warnings in advance of Winter Storm Jonas.

The National Weather Service announced the warnings Thursday afternoon. They will be in effect from Saturday at 1 p.m. to Sunday at 1 a.m.

Snow accumulations could reach up to 12 inches. The heavy downfall is expected to start around midday Saturday. Blizzard conditions are expected to persist from Saturday afternoon into the evening.

Northeastern winds could hit 40 miles per hour with gusts up to 55.

Travel will be extremely dangerous with poor visibility. Scattered power outages are expected.

“Those venturing outdoors could become lost or disoriented so persons in the warning area are advised to stay indoors,” the National Weather Service warned.
