Bramhall & Dunn Closing Sale Continues
There is still time to shop at this Island favorite before they close the doors forever
Bramhall & Dunn, the high-end women’s clothing and housewares store, will be closing its doors after being a Vineyard Haven mainstay for 28 years. According a Bramhall & Dunn blog post owner Emily Bramhall wrote last week, “It is with a mixture of anticipation, excitement and gratitude that I am writing to inform you of the conclusion of Bramhall & Dunn at the end of 2011. I have been happily leading this enterprise for the past 28 years, since 1983 when I was 25 years old. I am now eagerly looking forward to the next phases and adventures in my life, whatever they may be.”
The Bramhall & Dunn store in Edgartown is already closed and the store in Vineyard Haven is having a sale “until everything is gone or we feel it doesn’t look nice anymore,” said Wendy Whipple who has been a part of Bramhall & Dunn for the last 23 years.
This past Friday, the store opened its doors at 8 am to kick off their going out of business sale. “It looked like there was a Harry Potter movie going on or something,” said one shopper who decided to come back later in the afternoon. “There was a line going all the way down the block.”

“It has been so fun,” said Whipple of the sale on Friday. “We’ve seen everybody we know today.”
According to Whipple, they “haven’t determined whether or not prices will go down,” any further than they have already.

When asked what he is most looking forward to about moving into the next chapter of life, Robert Cropper, who has been store manager for the past six years said, “I haven’t even thought that far. I guess I’m having a Scarlett O’Hara approach to the whole thing. ‘I’m not going to think about that today, I’ll think about that tomorrow.’”
