The festivities begin at 4 p.m. under the tent. Ceramic artists each have their own table and each have donated a minimum of 30 bowls. Bowls are sold for $30 each or $50 for two people and the soup is free. All of the money raised from the Potters Bowl will go directly to the Featherstone pottery studio. "It is a really wonderful event," said Featherstone Assistant Director Emme Brown, "because it gives everyone who works so faithfully in the pottery studio a chance to raise money for that studio specifically."

Last year's event raised funds to purchase a digital kiln for the studio. "It's a real self-sustaining fund raiser," said Brown. "The new kiln allowed them to produce more bowls so we can have a bigger party this year."

This year's proceeds are set to go toward the upgrade of the water system in the studio. According to Brown the studio, which is really an old barn, is in desperate need of a new drainage system. All involved hope that the event will raise money to help defray a good portion of that cost.

A very impressive list of potters has been brought together and  includes: Nancy Blank, Scott Campbell, Helayne Cohen, Caitlyn Cook, Frank Creney, Frank Folts, Jr., Sharry Stevens Grunden, Carolyn Henderson, Debbie Hale, John Robert Hill, Will Hunter, Jennifer Rapuano Langhammer, Washington Ledesma, Sarah Mayhew, Jennifer McCurdy, Carl Mueller, Nancy Nash, Bill O'Callaghan, Dan Parker, Jackson Parker, Laurie Schreiber and Micah Thanhauser.

Soup will provided by a team of volunteers and is made of recipes that come from past and present board members. Bread from Rickard's Bakery along with beverages and dessert will round out the meal and Phil DaRosa will be on hand to serenade the diners.

The Potters Bowl also acts as a special opening reception for The Art of Light: Ceramics Show with Guest Curator Washington Ledesma that features ceramic lamps, candleholders and luminaries. "Guests can enjoy a lovely dinner and then come into the gallery and see the show. Many of the artists who contribute bowls are in the show, so guests get to see their talent in more ways than one," said Brown.

Guests get to take their bowls home at the end of the evening. Many come for pieces by a particular artist, but it's the big bowls that go first, according to Brown. The event is definitely for the whole family. Many of the artists attend the event, bringing their families along with their bowls. Said Brown "It's a nice way to end the summer, to bring it back to basics. It's not frilly, not fancy, just straight-up soup."
