Coast Guard Suspends Search For Man Overboard Near Nantucket

The Coast Guard has called off their search for the man who fell overboard off the Blue Wave fishing vessel near Nantucket Monday.

NANTUCKET, MA — The Coast Guard has been looking for a man who went overboard about 60 nautical miles southeast of Nantucket Monday morning but decided to stop their search Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday, the Coast Guard responded to a call of a man overboard while on a New Bedford fishing vessel called the Blue Wave.

"The man was not wearing a life jacket," the Coast Guard said on Twitter.

Blue Wave is a scalloping vessel belonging to Blue Harvest Fisheries that was set to return to the harbor after eight to ten days, but the Coast Guard reported them back to port Tuesday morning.

The Coast Guard says they searched 1,444 square nautical miles before suspending the search and rescue.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
