Drunken Joyride On Nantucket Lands NY Man In Police Custody

A 25-year-old is facing charges after admitting to police that he had been drinking and didn't have permission to drive the car, police say.

NANTUCKET, MA — A man from New York is facing multiple charges after police say he took a Jeep from a Yacht Club parking lot in Nantucket and refused to stop for officers.

Brian Dorman, 25, of New York, is facing OUI charges and motor vehicle violations.

On July 3, Nantucket police responded to a report of a stolen Jeep out of the Yacht Club on S. Beach Street around 12:30 a.m. A brief search of the area nearby had officers finding the missing 2021 white Jeep Wrangler heading down South Water Street.

Officers say the Jeep was swerving in and out of the lane, and would not stop when they tried to pull him over. The driver continued to drive further down the street for about a mile before finally reaching a dead end, a police report shows.

Officers were able to get the driver out of the Jeep and identified him as Dorman, who had urine stains on his shorts and what police called in the report a "strong smell of alcohol on his breath."

Dorman admitted to police that he had been drinking and that he did not have permission to drive the Jeep, the report said.

After failing a field sobriety test, Dorman was arrested.

Dorman was released on personal recognizance and is next scheduled to appear in court on August 22 for a pre-trial hearing.
