Edgartown Breeder Charged After 65 Cats Were Rescued

The Animal Rescue League of Boston said the cats were kept in excessively hot conditions with poor air quality that smelled of waste.

EDGARTOWN, MA —The Animal Rescue League of Boston and the Edgartown Police Department combined to rescue 65 cats from a Martha's Vineyard breeder on Wednesday.

The ARL of Boston said the cats were being kept in areas of poor air quality, excessive heat and had an overwhelming smell of cat waste.

Cat breeder Jennifer Winsper, 48, is being charged with two counts of animal cruelty by the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

"We are very appreciative of the strong partnership we have with the Animal Rescue League of Boston," Edgartown Police Chief Bruce McNamee said in the release. "Their resources and expertise are invaluable to a small police department, especially one out here on Martha's Vineyard, in cases like these."

The ARL of Boston said most of the cats will need weeks of veterinary care.
