edible Vineyard is a locally owned and operated quarterly magazine that raises awareness about local food and celebrates the stories of the seasons of the Island. It is a member of Edible Communities, Inc.

“As a self-described ‘foody’ and ‘frustrated farmer’ Governor Patrick has repeatedly demonstrated his support and fondness of agriculture in our Commonwealth,” said Scott Soares, the outgoing Commissioner of Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources (MDAR). “Certainly his recognition of edible Vineyard and the other four edible publications in Massachusetts, is a reflection of the tremendous impact that these impressive publications have on his growing passion for farm-to-family dinner tables, school cafeterias, and food pantries in the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”

edible Vineyard strives to put forth a sterling multi-dimensional editorial about the people, animals, land, water, and food that are integral parts of Vineyard’s local food system. The Governor’s citation reads in part: “…in recognition of your exceptional portrayals of seasonal local products and in appreciation of your efforts to bring local foods to the plates of Massachusetts residents.”

“When you’re so focused on getting the magazine out and making it look good, it’s easy to forget the impact it really has locally and on the many subscribers we have who live off-Island,” Berlow said. “I’m honored to be able to share all the great things that are happening on the Island…and thrilled that the Island was recognized by Governor Patrick.”

Scott Soares received a well-deserved standing ovation from the crowd for his many years of service to Massachusetts. He is leaving in May after 17 years of public service to assume the role of Executive Director for the Cranberry Marketing Committee (CMC). Governor Patrick has sworn in Greg Watson from Falmouth, Mass. as the new Commissioner of MDAR.
