A $16.9 million high school budget proposal meeting, the start of shotgun season and Mah Jong are all happening today

- It’s time to get out your blaze-orange gear. Shotgun season starts one-half hour before sunrise today. Those walking in wooded areas should wear bright colors and take particular care during sunrise and sunset when hunters are most active. It is also advised that dogs wear bright colors too!
- Martha's Vineyard Regional High School will hold a public hearing on their proposed fiscal year 2013 budget tonight. The new budget, proposed at $16,938,267 is 2% higher than last year’s budget. The hearing starts at 7 pm in the Performing Arts Center.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is in need of “Bigs.” Island residents interested should contact Connie Alexander at 508-693-010.
- They’re playing Mah Jong at the Tisbury Senior Center in Vineyard Haven today. All are welcome. 1 pm. For more information, call 508-696-4205.
- The Tisbury School Library Book Fair starts today and runs through Thursday. Stop by between 2:45 pm and 4 pm and help raise funds for new technology upgrades that will enhance the school's curriculum. For more information, call 508-696-6527.
