Five Things You Need to Know Today: October 13
Today there is a Pumpkin Festival at Morning Glory, a Can You Dig It Plant Sale at the WT Library and the Inspirational Women of Botany will be celebrated a Polly Hill

1. Today at the West Tisbury Free Public Library, there is a Can You Dig It Plant Sale! The West Tisbury Library will be selling nearly all of the plants in the landscape surrounding the library before the building begins, so bring a shovel and a strong back. They have grasses, butterfly bush, sedums and many other beautiful plants that need a new home. Sunday October 14 is the rain date. All proceeds benefit the Building Fund. 8 am – 1 pm. 2. Today at the YMCA, there is an Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED Review and First Aid class offered by the American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter. The course covers knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and provide basic care for cardiac and breathing emergencies and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) use. The CPR/AED certification is valid for two years as is the first aid certification. $70. 9 am – 3 pm. To enroll call 1-800-RED-CROSS or sign up online at RedCross.org.
3. Polly Hill Arboretum presents the Inspirational Women of Botany today. From authoring the first botany textbooks to establishing the science of ecology, women botanists did it all. Join author Judith Sumner to explore the role of women in botanical studies and documentation—including the significant work of the Island’s own Polly Hill. $20/$10 members. 10 am – 11 am. 4. The Morning Glory Farm Pumpkin Festival takes place today. There will be music, games, hayrides, food and more. Pumpkin carving contest entries are due between 8 am - 9:30 am. Prizes awarded at noon. 11 am - 3 pm. For more information, visit morninggloryfarm.com.
