An Open Mic Night, the end of the Plein Air Derby and two Islanders win prestigious awards

1. The Renaissance House Writers will be hosting an Open Mic Night tonight at the Renaissance House, 31 Pennacook Ave in Oak Bluffs. Writers this week are Fern Gillespie, Simone Monique Barnes, EdM and Lesago Malepe. The public is invited to call and make an appt to join in the spoken word festivities or just show up. 2. The of Martha’s Vineyard announced Daniel Waters of West Tisbury the winner of the 2011 Creative Living Award. And graduate Ruth Guilford recently received the 2011-2012 Timocracy Scholarship, providing her with $5,000 toward her studies at Lesley’s Graduate School of Education.
3. in Edgartown is having a jewelry sale. All of their jewelry is 10%-25% and includes work by Ayala Bar, Jeanine Payer, Saundra Messenger and Amy Kahn Russell. Sale runs through October 10th.

4. Final three days of are this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Plein Air "Derby" features 24 artists who have been invited by the gallery to bring in their painted "daily catch" for display and sale. 11 am – 5 pm
5. There will be a Barbour and Trunk Show today at Green Room. Meet a rep from Barbour, try on some coats, get some free stuff and get ready for fall. 1 pm – 4 pm
