Hermine Update: Mass. To Feel First Impact Tonight

Also, here's an answer for those of you wondering, "What is a post-tropical storm?"

Hermine is no longer designated as a hurricane, or even a tropical storm, but Post-Tropical Storm Hermine — aka a former tropical storm with a lot of the same characteristics — is still forecast to be headed for Massachusetts.

According to the National Weather Service, Post-Tropical Storm Hermine is bringing high winds, rip currents and rain to the region, starting tonight. The high tide could also cause moderate beach erosion, particularly in Nantucket and Rhode Island.

Starting tonight and into Monday afternoon (see NWS graphic above), the state's south coast, Cape and Islands could see wind gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour, potentially resulting in scattered power outages and downed trees.
