Leatherback Turtle Found on the South Shore
A member of the largest sea turtle family found dead this afternoon

A dead leatherneck turtle washed ashore between Sunday night and Monday morning. The carcass, which measures about six and half feet from head to tail, was discovered by William Waterway, who took measurements and reported the finding to the New England Aquarium and Mass Audubon.Â
According to Waterway, Mass Audubon "will inspect the carcass over the next couple of days. Susan Bellincampi of Mass Audubon at is hoping that the shell is salvageable so it may stay on-island and be used in her educational programs."
