Letter to the Editor: Why It's Important to Vote for Obama and Warren
Scott Brown's response that he preferred Scalia for the Supreme Court prompts Vineyard Haven woman to write urging voters to choose Obama and Warren

To the Editor:
In the second debate between Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown, the moderator asked them to name the Supreme Court justice they preferred. Scott Brown responded by naming Scalia. (He quickly added two other justices when the UMass Lowell audience booed.)
But his answer got me thinking about the importance of this election for the Supreme Court. Several of the current justices are elderly and have been ill. The next president is very likely to nominate new justices. And the next Senate, which ratifies the president’s nomination, needs a good majority of Democrats.

Do we want another Scalia, who is probably the most conservative justice on the Court now? Along with four other conservative justices, he voted in favor of the Citizens United argument that led to the unlimited and anonymous donations for Super-Pacs. We see the results on our TV screens every day this election.
To be sure this reign of money is stopped, we need justices who will stand up for democracy. This can only happen if President Obama is re-elected and if Elizabeth Warren is elected to the Senate. Please vote for them both!
