Man Drowns After Caught In Riptide Off Martha's Vineyard: Police
State Police say a man from Virginia who is believed to have been caught in a riptide off Martha's Vineyard has died.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — Two friends were swimming off a Martha's Vineyard beach Monday when one of them was believed to have been caught in a riptide and drowned, State Police said.
The 64-year-old man from Fairfax County, Virginia, was identified as Donald Reagan by State Police Wednesday afternoon.
Regan was taken to Martha's Vineyard Hospital around 6 p.m. Monday where he was pronounced dead, said State Police.

Reagan and his friend, a 68-year old Martha's Vineyard man had been kayaking off Long Point Beach in West Tisbury when they decided to go swimming, police said.
"The victim is believed to have been caught in a riptide," State Police spokesman David Procopio said in an email.

Reagan's friend attempted to save him, state police said, but the two became separated in the heavy current. The Martha's Vineyard man was able to swim to shore and call 911.
