Police Are Puzzled By Missing Pistol In Martha's Vineyard

The Tisbury Police Department is missing a .40 caliber pistol.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — There is an unaccounted for pistol registered to the Tisbury Police Department floating around the public somewhere.

After Tisbury Police Chief Mark Saloio recently attired, he also gave some perplexing news: a pistol has been missing from the Tisbury Police department “on or about July 2017,” according to a memo obtained by the Martha's Vineyard Times.

Saloio originally sent a memo to Tisbury town administrator Jay Grande in November 2019, informing him that he learned about the missing gun through a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) inquiry that came via the Dukes County Sheriff’s Department, according to the Martha's Vineyard Times.

The missing gun has sparked the question of who last had the pistol, as many officers denied ever having it and a lack of paperwork just begs more questions.

An outside investigation was suggested a few years back to try and determine who the last person to have the gun was, but recently Saloio told The Times that the town wasn't interested in hiring an outside investigator.
