Nantucket Ferry Service Canceled Amid Jose Winds
The Steamship Authority has temporarily suspended Nantucket service, while Martha's Vineyard continues on a case-by-case basis.
NANTUCKET, MA – Ferry service to Nantucket has been temporarily suspended Thursday morning, the Steamship Authority announced shortly after midnight, citing "high winds and rough seas." Service to Martha's Vineyard will continue on a trip-by-trip basis, and all of Thursday's boats to and from Oak Bluffs are being diverted to Vineyard Haven.
The National Weather Service is expecting dangerous conditions in southern New England into Friday. These include winds of up to 55 knots and 15- to 25-foot seas, which the NWS calls "life threatening conditions."
Scattered power outages, tree damage and "minor" coastal flooding may also occur on Cape Cod, especially in Nantucket.
