Steamship Authority Warns Of Potential Cancelations Due To Storm

A winter wallop is expected to hit New England this weekend, and the Massachusetts Steamship Authority is bracing riders for the worst.

The storm could also potentially shut down Logan Airport and cancel flights up and down the East Coast, not just the ferry service to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — Be prepared for the possibility of cancelations aboard the Massachusetts Steamship Authority this weekend due to an upcoming nor'easter.

The winter storm is expected to bring heavy amounts of snow, with some areas looking at the possibility of 8-18 inches. Coastal flooding, intense wind gusts, and hazardous conditions are also expected to go hand-in-hand by Saturday.

"A winter storm with high winds is forecast for Saturday, and service may be canceled for most or all of the day on both routes. Please watch the forecast if you are traveling," the Authority said on Twitter Thursday.

Most of the state is under a winter storm watch from late Friday night through Saturday evening. The forecasted accumulations by the National Weather Service only run through 7 p.m. Saturday, meaning higher totals could be realized by the time the snow stops.

But the Authority isn't alone, as the storm could also potentially shut down Logan Airport and cancel flights up and down the East Coast.
