
On November 11, 1918, the armistice between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Since then, November 11th has been a national holiday dedicated to remembering and celebrating those who fought in that war and the wars that followed.
Here are some of the events happening around the Island in recognition of Veterans Day:
Starting at 7:30 am, there will be a display of flags at the Avenue of Flags in Oak Grove Cemetery, Vineyard Haven that will stay up until 3 pm this afternoon.

The annual Veterans Day Parade begins at Our Market in Oak Bluffs and goes up to Ocean Park.
At 12:30 pm, there will be a Veterans Memorial Rededication at the in West Tisbury.

The Martha’s Vineyard in Vineyard Haven will be honoring our veterans, past and present. Lay cantor Ljuba Davis from California will lead Shabbat Service and Jo Ann Murphy and Lieutenant Colonel David Berube will also present.
