West Tisbury Town Meeting: What You Need to Know

The 41-article town meeting warrant includes the following:

  • Allowing West Tisbury restaurants that serve over 50 people to serve beer and wine
  • Allowing selectmen to be able to issue one-day beer and wine licenses for special events
  • Whether or not to dredge the Mill Pond
  • Whether to rescind the measure prohibiting dogs on Lambert’s Cove Beach between June 15 - Sept. 15 and change it to allow dogs on the beach before 10 am and after 6:30 pm year-round
  • Approval of the final $1.5 million expenditure needed to build the new West Tisbury Library
  • Whether to move the police station to the West Tisbury public safety building and spend $85,000 for construction documents for a new police station
  • Whether to spend close to $3 million to repave town roads - $2.6 million of which would be borrowed
  • Whether to adopt Massachusetts’ stretch energy code for energy efficiency
  • Whether to amend town zoning bylaws to include the regulation of large-scale, ground-mounted solar panel installation
  • Whether to approve the school budget increases.The up-Island district is up 3.7 per cent over last year and includes funds needed to bring the school kitchen up to code and to have an independent meals program for West Tisbury and Chilmark schools.
  • Whether to change the name of the Field Gallery, which the town bought from the Maley family last year, to the Maley Field Gallery

West Tisbury’s budget is $14.4 million, up 4.5 per cent from last year.
