Medfield Approves More Than $600,000 in Capital Projects
Voters approved $600,884 in capital expenses, more than $200,000 lower than the amounts requested by town departments.

At town meeting last week, voters agreed to raise and appropriate $600,884 for capital budget projects for various departments.
The vote, which passed unanimously, was based on the Warrant Committee's recommendations which were about $235,000 lower than the amounts requested ($836,225) from various town departments.

Projects to be funded include:
- Department: Project (amount requested), amount approved
- Board of Selectmen: Repair gazebo ($10,000), same
- Inspections: Permit software ($11,000), same
- Personnel: Reclassification of Personnel Plan ($6,000), same
- Library: HVAC system upgrade ($37,500), same
- Fire Department:
- 4x4 crew cab pickup truck ($38,000), same
- Replacement of protective clothing ($30,000), same
- Council on Aging: 2013 8-10 passenger van ($25,000), same
- Conservation Commission: Land acquisition and maintenance ($50,000), $10,000
- School Department:
- Wheelock: Front Entry/Parking Lot Restoration ($96,680), $0 unfunded
- Upgrade classroom electrical ($15,000), $15,000; replace boilers ($9,950), same
- Middle School: Auditorium seat repair/replacement ($13,825), $0 unfunded
- High School: Resurface tennis courts ($23,000), $0 unfunded; Life Skills program space renovation ($30,553), $30,500
- District-wide: Security enhancements ($38,325), same; Financial software upgrade ($59,164), same
- Police Department:
- Cruiser radios ($12,000), same
- Speed monitor trailer ($11,000), same
- Speed enforcement radar units ($12,000), same
- Public Works
- Highway: Ford 550 dump truck ($60,145), same
- Sewer Enterprise: Ford 150 truck ($30,300), same
- Snow and Ice: Flink sander ($22,000), same
- Snow and Ice: Bombardier sidewalk plow model SW4US ($155,120), $133,000
- Parks and Recreation
- F350 Maintenance/landscaping truck ($39,663), $0 unfunded
The total amount requested by various departments was $836,225.

The total amount recommended by the Warrant Committee and approved by Town Meeting was $600,884 which will be funded through Tax Levy ($510,439), Sewer Enterprise Funds ($30,300) and Chapter 90 appropriation ($60,145).
