Medfield Boys' Soccer Shut Out by Dover-Sherborn Tuesday

Medfield boys' soccer fell 5-0 to Dover-Sherborn Tuesday night.

DOVER – Despite losing handily to Dover-Sherborn Tuesday night, Medfield head coach Jason Heim believes his team is headed in the right direction.

The Warriors (0-2-1, 0-2-1) fell, 5-0, to D-S, who was led by senior Sam Jordan, who scored three goals in the game.

“We actually had our best game [Tuesday] of the season,” Heim said. “Sometimes the score isn’t on your side but we came out and played. The first 10 minutes we had more opportunities than they did and in the first half they showed me that they can play with the top teams.”

Heim said it his team is undergoing a major transition after losing many veterans to graduation.

“We lost 14 seniors and only had a couple starters return and one of our captains is out with a season-ending injury," Heim said. "So we’ve got some things to fix here and there but I can definitely take some positive away."

Medfield held their own against the defending Division 3 state champions for about the first 10 minutes of the game. The Warriors were quicker to the ball and aggressive offensively.

“Give Medfield a lot of credit, they came out and put us on our heels early,” D-S head coach Joe Gruseck said. “They had us pinned-in for the first 10-12 minutes or so and give them a lot of credit. We were able to persevere and put a ball in the back of the net."

Although they weren't able to score, Heim said he was pleased with the opportunities his players were getting in the game.

“We’ve got to sure up our defense a little bit more, we can’t let up five goals. But at the same time we had more opportunities in this game than we did in our previous two games combined,” Heim said.

For the Raiders, Jordan scored the first three goals in the game and dominated the Warriors' defense.

“We knew right off the bat ... he’s a big kid," Heim said of Jordan. "He’s a fast kid and he got inside of us a couple times and he had a couple nice goals too, nothing to shake your head at. If he did that against any other team he’d have a hat trick against them too. It’s nice when you’ve got a kid that big that can run and he has that much skill and he can finish too.”

Walker Littlehale and Charles Blizard each scored goals for the Raiders.

Medfield hosts Medway Friday, Sept. 16 at the conclusion of the girls' soccer game, which begins at 5 p.m.
