Ettore’s new restaurant will be A Tavola, Italian for “at the table,” and is expected to open at 34 Church St. in mid-November. Some jabs were exchanged during the first mayoral debate of the election season, as Malden councilors Gary Christenson and Deborah Fallon sought to distinguish themselves from one another as the candidate for change at Malden's Thursday night. The candidates saw differences on issues like downtown revitalization and revenue, and came prepared with some prepackaged attacks for their opponent.

A 76-year-old Bow Street man died on Wednesday afternoon when the back porch he was working on collapsed on Bow Street in Melrose, pinning him underneath. George Carroll was transported to and pronounced dead in the emergency department, Hallmark Health spokeswoman Jesse Kawa said. Carroll was shoring up the porch attached to the rear of 21 Bow St. and for "whatever reason, the deck pulled away from the house, pinning him down underneath the deck," Capt. Ed Collina said.
