Medford Has A New Ambulance Service Provider

Medford's previous emergency service provider was Armstrong Ambulance.

MEDFORD, MA — The city has found a new emergency service provider for 2026 and beyond.

Medford agreed to a three-year contract with Cataldo Ambulance on Tuesday, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced.The company now will be providing all basic and advanced lifesaving ambulance emergency response coverage for the city beginning on Monday, Jan. 19. In addition, Cataldo is slated to work with Medford to create a Behavioral Support Unit, meant to specifically handle mental health and substance use-related emergencies. Lungo-Koehn referred to Cataldo as the best in their field.

“The team at Cataldo have been providing exemplary emergency medical services to Cities and Towns throughout the Commonwealth,” Lungo-Koehn said. “This partnership strengthens our emergency response system while also allowing us to better address mental health and substance use crises with compassion, care, and the right resources.”

According to Lungo-Koehn, Cataldo will be bringing 26 new AED devices along with their service. 21 are slated to be given to the fire department while six will be spread to public schools in the district.
“Throughout my meetings with the staff at Cataldo, I’ve been impressed with their work ethic, commitment to operational efficiency and dedication to delivering high quality care in pressure packed situations,” Fire Chief Todd Evans said.

The company was founded by Bob and Diana Cataldo in 1977 in Somerville. Throughout the last 48 years, the business has expanded through mergers and purchases of other ambulance companies such as Caggiano Ambulance Service, Atlantic Ambulance, North Shore Ambulance, and Lyons Ambulance Service.

“We are excited about this partnership, President Dennis Cataldo said. “The proximity of Medford to the adjacent cities of Malden, Somerville, and Everett, all of which have been served by Cataldo for more than 25 years, place Cataldo in a unique and advantageous position to service Medford.”

Medford’s previous emergency service provider was Armstrong Ambulance.
