Around the Region: Indecent Assaults in Somerville; Arlington Karate Coach Charged; 'Hockey Dad's' Son Dies

Here are some of the top stories recently from just beyond Medford's city lines:

Somerville police have increased patrols in the neighborhoods around Davis and Porter squares in the wake of a series of indecent assaults that have taken place in the area. Police are also looking at incidents over the past two years to see if they can spot possible connections. "We're throwing whatever resources we can into the mix," said Deputy Chief Paul Upton of the Somerville Police Department.

Several fire departments battled a three-alarm blaze at a Spring Street home in Stoneham Wednesday afternoon. The fire broke out around 2 p.m. at 65 Spring St. The blaze appeared to be contained to the upper level of the two-level house. A mixture of dense grey and black smoke billowed through the rooftop, with some flames concentrated in the right portion of the roof after firefighters axed into the roof to gain access to the fire. Shortly before 2:40 p.m., the blaze appeared to be knocked down and under control.

: READING - Quinlan Junta, son of "hockey dad" Thomas Junta who was convicted for killing another father at a Reading hocket practice, died on Sunday. The younger Junta, a stand-out hockey player, had his own problems with the law after he was charged with assault and theft charges following a Reading robbery in February.

The Winchester Board of Selectmen announced they  contingent upon successful contract negotiations. “I have spoken to Richard and he is excited & energized about the opportunity to join our community as our next Town Manager," Winchester Selectmen Forrest Fontana said in a statement.  Howard has been the mayor of Malden since 1996, and is not seeking re-election.

A Middlesex grand jury has indicted an he indecently assaulted a young girl at his studio, officials said Monday. Thomas Donahue, 52, of Lexington, faces charges of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14 and enticement of a child, according to a release from the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. He is the founder of  in Arlington, where authorities say the crime took place.
