Around the Region: Local Connections to HGTV, ESPN's Body Issue, Occupy Boston

A few top headlines from around the region.

Here's some of the top stories from just beyond Medford's city lines recently:

Fonge Pierre, 32, of Chelsea and another Chelsea man have been arrested in connection to a that sent a 35-year-old man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The shooting took place at about 1:30 a.m. at 10 Illinois Ave. in East Somerville. According to a news release from the Somerville Police Department, Somerville police worked with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, State Police and Chelsea Police to identify suspects in the wake of the shooting.

teacher didn’t take the title of Sunday’s finale of the HGTV reality show All American Handyman. But she sure enjoyed the season. “The best part of the experience was defeinitely making it to the end,” Oropallo told Patch after the show. “I did this competition because I knew I could win. No matter whether I did win, I made it to the end.” The first challenge of the evening was building a shed in five hours. Oropallo cleared that stage and was one of the remaining three contestants, after one of the four was eliminated.

Winchester gymnast, Alicia Sacramone, dropped her clothes as she posed for the ESPN Body Issue. The magazine, which hits newstands Oct. 7, is supposed to give readers a look at an athlete's body. When asked why she posed for the issue, Sacramone told ESPN that "it's a huge honor and a cool opportunity. I wanted to show that you don't need to be 13 or 14 years old to be a gymnast. You can be older and still have good results.

While activists have yet to camp out in Malden Center, the "Occupy Wall Street" movement has inspired at least some residents to camp out in Boston's Dewey Park this week. The makeshift tent city in Boston's financial district continues to grow, as “Occupy Boston” demonstrators maintain a tent city of about 100 dwellers just outside the city's federal reserve bank.
