Burger King Approved to Be Open 24/7, Would be Medford's First

Burger King OK'd for 24-hour drive through by city council.

The Medford City Council approved a request from Burger King on Mystic Avenue that would allow the fast food joint to be the city's first 24-hour restaurant.

The council held a public hearing Tuesday on the request from Burger King to keep it's drive-through, which currently closes at 3 a.m., open through the night. The restaurant currently closes for 4 hours, opening at 7 a.m. for breakfast.

The councilors approved the request with no opposition, but with a couple of contingencies: That the restaurant install several trash receptacles and that the council review the permit in six months.

The city currently has no restaurants with permits to stay open 24 hours a day, City Clerk Ed Finn said. Burger King was granted a permit to keep its drive through open 24/7 five years ago, but the restaurant never exercised it and it lapsed two years later, Finn said.
