Burning Yard Waste Turned 'Unmanageable' In Medford: FD

The Medford Fire Department reminded residents that open burning is not allowed after they were called to extinguish a fire Friday.

MEDFORD, MA – Fire officials reminded residents that open burning is not allowed in Medford after a close call Friday. A Fellsway West resident was burning yard waste when the fire quickly became "unmanageable," the Medford firefighters union said.

Firefighters were called after the fire got close to trees, a fence and overhead electrical wires.

While some communities allow open burning with certain restrictions, the Department of Environmental Protection prohibits open burning in Medford due to its population density and the close proximity of buildings.
