Cab Robbery Suspects Arrested

Two people face charges stemming from allegedly robbing a cab driver by pulling a plastic bag over his face.

A couple has been arrested who police say used a trash bag to rob a Malden cab driver.

The pair was picked up near Tufts University in either Medford or Somerville, Channel 7 News reports.

Jaime Lyn Diaco, 34, of Haverhill, and Jason Stephen Russell, 34, of Malden were located at the Charles Street Stop and Shop in Malden, where Russell had been arrested on a shoplifting charge, police told the Boston Globe.

A cab driver was mugged on Highland Ave. near Pearl St. in Malden early Wednesday morning after a couple entered the taxi and covered the driver's head with a bag, Malden police said.

The male and female suspect then stole over $100 in cash and fled on foot, Lt. David Chalmers said. The incident occurred about 12:50 a.m.

"The cab came to a halt and the two men began to fight in the street," Lt. Detective Mark Gatcomb wrote in an email Wednesday. "As the cabbie attempted to get away from his attacker, the female suspect took some of his belongings from within the taxi."

The two suspects fled on foot and were tracked by police dogs into Medford, but were not found.

Diaco and Russell are expected to be arraigned today in Malden District Court.
