The defendant had visited the victim’s barbershop asking for money on Dec. 10, two days before the stabbing, prosecutors say. He returned on the evening of Dec. 12 and allegedly stabbed Dwyer once in the chest, causing fatal injuries.
Boston Police responded to the scene at about 6:20 p.m. after a call for an unresponsive male in the street. Dwyer was pronounced dead at the scene.

A six-month grand jury investigation entailed testimony from more than a dozen witnesses and the review of video evidence from the area, telephone records, social media postings, DNA testing, and Shiner’s own statements.
Homicide detectives and prosecutors diligently investigated the incident, leading to Dwyer’s indictment Friday by the Suffolk County Grand Jury and his arrest on Sunday.
According to the DA’s office, Shiner has been previously convicted in cases from South Boston, Ayer and Charlestown.
