Medford Forms Task Forces On Fire Department, Parking

The city is seeking residents to serve on task forces on fire department facilities and parking enforcement policies.

MEDFORD, MA — Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn on Friday announced the formation of two task forces providing recommendations on fire department facilities and current and future parking enforcement policies. Both task forces are seeking applicants to fill openings for Medford residents.

Lungo-Koehn previously identified the task forces as key components of the city's goals around modernizing and expanding services and improving infrastructure.

The Mayor's Task Force on Fire Department Facilities will be tasked with evaluating the state of repair of existing facilities utilized by the Medford Fire Department, assessing needs of the Department and industry standards for operation, and developing strategies and recommendations to achieve those standards, including but not limited to the reuse, replacement, relocation, or consolidation of facilities.

The Task Force will consist of two Medford residents, a member of the City Council, the Medford Fire Chief or a designee, three members of IAFF Local 1032, the City's Chief Procurement Officer, and the City's Building Commissioner.

Residents seeking to serve on the Task Force should have a professional background or experience related to the subject.

Mayor's Commission on Parking Policy and Enforcement

The Mayor's Commission on Parking Policy and Enforcement will be tasked with evaluating the City’s current parking policies, their fee structure and collection methods, evaluating the structure of parking enforcement in the City and determine the need, mission and authority of a dedicated City department to address parking related matters, and providing recommendations to the Mayor based on these findings.

The Commission will consist of three Medford residents, one member of the City Council, the Chief of the Medford Police Department or a designee, the Chief of the Medford Fire Department or a designee, the City Engineer or a designee, the City Solicitor or a designee, and the Director of the Office of Community Development or a designee.

Residents who are interested in serving on these task forces should complete the Board and Commission Interest Form available at www.medfordma.org/boards/. Forms should be submitted via email to Neil Osborne, Director of Diversity & Inclusion, and Acting Director of Human Resources, at Nosborne@medford-ma.gov, or by mail to the Personnel Department at City Hall, 85 George P. Hassett Drive, Medford, MA 02155. Applications are due by close of business on Friday, June 26.
