MEDFORD, MA — Medford Superintendent Marice Edouard-Vincent and the Medford School Committee have named Brooks Elementary School Principal Suzanne Galusi the new Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education. Galusi is replacing Diane Caldwell, who is retiring from the school district after 45 years.

Galusi, a Medford native, has taught for 23 years in the Medford Public Schools. She attended the Brooks Elementary School, Hobbs Junior High School and Medford High School, before finishing her high school education at Arlington Catholic High School.

Her teaching career began at the Davenport Elementary School, and she was later selected to join the new flagship McGlynn Elementary School, where she served as a third grade teacher for 11 years. During that time, she also served as the junior varsity cheerleading coach for Medford High School. At McGlynn, Galusi co-developed and implemented the MCAS curricula for third grade that was eventually used to create the district's model for assessment readiness skills.

She further served as a lead teacher and pioneer teacher of inclusion math with a focus on flexible groupings based on data. Additionally, she chaired the Intervention Team and Literacy Team at McGlynn, while also facilitating district-wide third grade team meetings for every elementary school.

In 2012, Galusi was appointed assistant principal of both the Brooks and the Roberts Elementary Schools, serving in that dual role for two years. She has spent the past six years solely at the Brooks School, and under her instructional leadership, the students have consistently demonstrated increased academic outcomes for all learners, with a proven track record of demonstrated success, the Medford Public Schools said in a statement.

Galusi will assume her new role July 1.

"The process will begin immediately to search for a new principal for the Brooks Elementary School," Edouard-Vincent said in a statement. "We intend to include the Brooks Community in the search process."
