Medford Scammer Pretending To Be Cop: Police

Residents have been getting calls about warrants for their arrest, police say.

MEDFORD, MA — Police are warning residents of a phone scam where the caller pretends to be a Medford police officer. Residents have been told that there are warrants for their arrest, and they need to pay by cash or gift cards to avoid being arrested.

Amounts have totaled in the thousands of dollars in some cases, police said. The Medford Police Department said it does not operate this way, and warns never to send money based on a phone call.

Anyone with questions should call the Medford Police Department at 781-395-1212.
