Medford's Crash Crossroads; An Alimony Bill; Fall Fests Abound

Good morning. Here's five things to know:

The state released its list of the top 200 crash intersections last week, and Mystic Valley Parkway at Winthrop Street came in at 120, while Main Street at Salem Street came in at 153, according to the data compiled by the Department of Transportation.

On Monday, Governor Patrick signed a bill that reforms the Commonwealth’s alimony system, Senator Patricia Jehlen announced Wednesday. “This important piece of legislation reforms an antiquated and often unfair system,” said Jehlen, a co-sponsor of the legislation, in a statement.  “I have heard too many stories of families hurt by the alimony system.  This balanced approach takes account of changes in society and the workplace in order to make the alimony system fairer for all.”

3. Rain Likely: There's a 70 percent chance of rain today and a 60 percent chance tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Highs in the mid-70s.

The annual Harvest Your Energy festival takes place Saturday on the McGlynn School fields off Freedom Way from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and there's lots more to do this weekend, too.

Outgoing Malden Mayor Richard C. Howard is one of four finalists under consideration for a town manager position in Winchester, . The four-term mayor announced he would   “I'm looking at any number of opportunities,” he said. “Even though there are other (town) manager positions that are open, this is the only one I am seeking.”
