Medford Nursing Homes See Close To 100 Deaths
New figures released by state health officials show how coronavirus has hurt local senior care facilities.
MEDFORD, MA – Nearly 100 residents of Medford's three senior care facilities have died of complications due to the coronavirus over the course of the pandemic, according to new figures released Wednesday by the state Department of Public Health.
The figures released Wednesday offered the first look at how severely coronavirus has affected senior care homes across the state. Of the 6,547 coronavirus deaths in the state so far during the pandemic, just over 4,000 are connected to a nursing home.
In Medford, Courtyard Nursing Care Center has been hit the hardest with 60 deaths so far, the third highest total among 319 facilities tracked by the state. In early May, the facility reported more than 100 additional cases among residents and 42 among staff.

"We are doing everything in our power – and everything medical experts know as of at this time – to protect our patients, residents and employees."
The state's figures are up-to-date as of Tuesday. The state also only released data on homes where more than two people had died.
