MEDFORD, MA — Two people were displaced by a fire in Medford overnight. Firefighters were called to a two-alarm fire on Brookings Street around 2 a.m., the fire department said.

Emergency crews arrived to flames coming from the front side of the house. A woman and child were trapped inside the home by smoke and heat on the second floor, the department said.

Firefighters used a ladder to pull them to safety. Both were uninjured.

The American Red Cross said it responded to the scene to help two displaced residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
